What are the best ways that you can avoid skin cancer? I'd like to hear some advice and tips as Im always outside doing something and don't want to have skin cancer at 25 from UV exposure.

Do you use sunscreen? If not - you should. It's available just about anywhere.

Thanks, I generally use SPF-15 on just about every day before going out

The SPF doesn't make a difference... anything above 25 is exactly the same..
You don't need to put it on before going out everyday.. that's just excessive.
Put whatever you can on before going to the beach, on a boat.. etc- you don't need it whenever you go outside.

I agree with WaffleStomp, Machi. There's really no need to put it on every single day, but that's up to you.

You should always use sunscreen when enduring prolonged exposure in the sun. Find a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor of at least 15 and read the directions for proper application. The higher the SPF, the higher the protection you will receive against dangerous sunburns. However, sunscreen does not offer “bulletproof” protection, and UV rays can penetrate water, so just because you feel “cool” in the water doesn’t mean you’re protected from sunburn.

Most skin cancers are due to exposure to sun. So avoid sun as much as possible. No tanning. Use sunscreen. See a derma so he/she can check your whole body for moles and follow it up. The MD will advise you which ones to watch closely for any changes. Here's an easy way to remember. ABC---asymmetry in shape, Border is irregular and Color is uneven or varied. See your MD.

Avoiding exposure to the sun is the best way to prevent skin cancer,But there's more you should know about early diagnosis of suspicious areas on the skin.

The best way to remove actinic keratosis is using intense freezing (cryotherapy) with a single application of liquid nitrogen. This is a pretty painless procedure, and very effective. Occasionally, surgical removal is used for large lesions. Chemical destruction (with a drug called 5-fluorouracil) is an alternative if there are many lesions involving the head and neck; application is twice daily for 2 to 5 weeks, and there may be a risk of infection and inflammation. More cosmetic approaches include chemical peeling and facial dermabrasion.

If you can't avoid the sun, then sunscreen can help to block the harmful UV rays. You should also try to avoid long term exposure to the sun if possible. Also I wouldn't use a tanning bed. While the sun has many positive things to help with your health, too much exposure can be bad. Even if you aren't swimming or at the beach, you should always try to apply sun screen to your face, arms and legs when out in the sun.
