My father in law had a similar procedure done where they had to remove a testicle that had a tumor on it.
Luckily the cancer hadn't spread any where and they were able to remove it all. The most likely course of action for someone if they detect it early are a few weekly check ups after the surgery, that will then become monthly check ups, and then they'll eventually get to once a year and once every 5 years.
My father in law is almost 75 years old now, and this happened about 25 years ago, so once someone is over it, the effect on their life can be minimal
